Job Overview

The Physician Assistant is responsible for delivering medical consultations, managing routine patient care, and conducting follow-ups as instructed. This role involves assisting physicians with various procedures and acting as a communication bridge between the physician and the patient.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Physician Assistant encompass, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Conducts comprehensive patient assessments
  • Identifies actual or potential health issues based on collected data and formulates treatment plans
  • Orders and initiates necessary laboratory tests, medications, treatments, and consultations based on data analysis
  • Performs routine procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing (excluding tendons, arteries, or nerves), wound care, and blood draws, while managing uncomplicated conditions arising from infections, trauma, or other medical issues
  • Educates patients about prescribed treatments and medications
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of patient medical records
  • Makes rounds as requested by supervising physicians and completes patient discharge summaries as needed
  • For ISMC Neurosurgical: Ensures all necessary pre-operative tests (e.g., labs, EKGs, x-rays) are completed prior to surgery, assists in surgical procedures, and provides post-operative care
  • For Metro ER: Aids in triage and initiates necessary radiographic and laboratory studies for patients, and may examine and treat patients under direct physician supervision
  • For Mental Health: Conducts patient assessments following therapeutic holds in accordance with state and federal regulations
The Physician Assistant reports directly to the supervising physician and department management.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program is required
  • Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of Oklahoma is mandatory
  • Current BLS certification is required
  • Effective communication skills in English are essential
  • For ISMC Neurosurgical Department: 1 year of experience in a surgical setting is preferred
  • For Emergency Department: 1 year of experience in a comprehensive emergency department setting is preferred
  • For NZTI: Current ACLS certification is required for those working with adults in acute care settings
  • Current PALS certification is required for those working with children in acute care settings
