At Sonoco, we are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing proactive maintenance tasks to ensure the efficient and timely shipment of our products.

As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will work closely with our Plant Engineer and Maintenance Supervisor to maintain and repair utility and facility-related equipment. You will also assist and train other maintenance personnel with repairs, PMs, and rebuilds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install and maintain auxiliary equipment as required by production
  • Maintain and repair utility and facility-related equipment as directed by the Plant Engineer
  • Assist and train other maintenance personnel with repairs, PMs, and rebuilds
  • Collaborate closely with other departments and teams for proactive problem resolutions
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area
  • Manage small projects to maintain or upgrade equipment
  • Perform all duties in support of Sonoco's quality and safety policies

Requirements:

  • Experience in an industrial environment or military experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining manufacturing equipment
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting, industrial, and motor controls
  • Comfortable with mechanical lifts, ladders, kneeling, bending, and twisting; lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable with overtime
  • Working independently and managing multiple tasks in an off-shift position with rotating shifts that will require overtime including weekends
