Job Overview

Position Title: Children's Waiting Room Program Attendant

Employment Type: Part-Time

Reports To: Program Director

GENERAL PURPOSE:

This role is integral to the mission of the Armed Services YMCA, a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of military families through youth development, wellness initiatives, and community engagement. The Children's Waiting Room (CWR) Program Attendant is responsible for ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for children while their parents or guardians attend appointments at an authorized medical facility.

Work Schedule: Approximately 10-15 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Program Director and Program Coordinator in daily operations.
  • Foster a welcoming and professional rapport with staff, parents, volunteers, and children, treating all individuals with respect and dignity.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and secure environment for all participants.
  • Oversee and manage supplies necessary for engaging activities.
  • Interact with children at their level, ensuring age-appropriate engagement.
  • Exemplify positive behavior for children to emulate.
  • Address parent inquiries and escalate unresolved matters to the Program Director.
  • Incorporate the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility into daily interactions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong organizational skills and adaptability.
  • Ability to connect positively with children, parents, and staff.
  • Experience in planning and executing age-appropriate activities.
  • Capability to build and maintain relationships within the military community.
  • Commitment to fulfilling responsibilities aligned with our mission.
  • Exhibit emotional maturity, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Effectively manage participant behavior.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Customer service-oriented with strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Experience in childcare or related fields.
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention is required; training will be provided if necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Position operates within a childcare setting.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is essential, with a total of approximately 10-15 hours per week.
  • Ability to engage professionally with the public and team members.
  • Physical capability to perform essential functions, including active play and interaction with children.
  • Comfortable with various physical activities, including sitting, kneeling, and moving from floor level.
