Job Summary

The Custodian II - Floor Care Specialist will provide routine housekeeping duties, including floor work, pressure washing, removal of heavy trash, window cleaning, and other related tasks in an assigned area. This role is responsible for maintaining flooring throughout the residential colleges and college magister houses, including buffing, stripping, and sealing of hard surfaces and shampooing of carpets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strips, scrubs, buffs floors
  • Seals, waxes, and applies finishes
  • Shampoos and extracts carpets
  • Pressure washes surfaces
  • Removes heavy trash
  • Performs special assignments in relation to custodial services
  • Cleans and polishes furniture, glass, doors, mirrors, walls, and other surfaces
  • Identifies and reports needed repairs
  • Assists other custodians with work as needed
Work Environment

This is a combined indoor/outdoor work environment in a variety of university settings, which may include offices, food serveries, and residential facilities. The Custodian II - Floor Care Specialist may be exposed to temperature extremes in facilities that are not climate controlled and may be required to work in restricted spaces.

Requirements
  • One year related floor work training
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety procedures
  • Must be proficient in the use of large commercial buffers
  • Must be able to speak and understand basic English
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team with others
  • Ability to follow directions
