Position Summary:
The Speech Pathologist I is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based patient care in alignment with professional standards and the mission of UNC Health Care. This role includes participation in continuing education, departmental initiatives, community outreach, and mentorship of students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnostic Assessment: Conducts both basic and advanced diagnostic evaluations in speech-language pathology to address communication and swallowing disorders.
- Educational Role: Instructs and oversees graduate Speech/Language Pathology students and clinical fellows. Contributes to the development of innovative patient care programs and serves as a resource for fellow clinicians.
- Care Evaluation: Analyzes diagnostic and therapeutic testing results to set patient goals and adjust treatment plans as necessary. Ensures effective communication to maintain continuity of care.
- Service Implementation: Utilizes current and advanced methodologies to deliver efficient rehabilitative services. Focuses on habilitation and rehabilitation for individuals with communication and cognitive impairments, prioritizing care based on patient and family needs.
- Community Engagement: Acts as a resource for state health professionals and government departments. Engages in local and state presentations, community health screenings, and the development of new clinical programs.
- Team Participation: Enhances clinical service quality through active involvement in departmental meetings and training sessions.
- Quality Assurance: Maintains accurate and reliable patient records and participates in quality improvement initiatives alongside clinical specialists and other healthcare professionals.
Qualifications:
- Education: Must have graduated from an accredited Speech-Language Pathology program.
- Licensure: Certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist by the North Carolina Board of Examiners.
- Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in the field of Speech Pathology.
