Job Summary:

As a Speech Therapist at UNC Health, you will provide evidence-based patient care consistent with professional standards and the organization's vision of leading, teaching, and caring.

The ideal candidate will have involvement in continuing education, departmental and community activities, outreach education, and serving as a preceptor to students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnostic Testing - Administer basic and complex diagnostic tests and evaluations in speech language pathology for the treatment of communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Education - Teach and supervise graduate Speech/Language Pathology students and/or clinical fellows, developing innovative programs to enhance patient care.
  • Evaluation of Care - Analyze diagnostic and therapeutic testing results to establish patient goals and modify treatment programs, identifying expected patient outcomes and communicating relevant information for continuity of care.
  • Implementation - Select and apply current and advanced techniques to provide quality and efficient rehabilitative services, providing habilitation/rehabilitation and maintenance of persons with communication, cognitive, and related impairments.
  • Outreach/Community Involvement - Serve as a resource to North Carolina government departments and statewide health professionals, presenting at local or state level, participating in community health screening and events, and developing new clinical programs to meet emerging needs.
  • Participation - Contribute to quality of clinical services through attendance and participation in departmental meetings and in-services.
  • Quality - Contribute to quality of clinical services through maintenance of valid and reliable records of patient procedures and progress, participating in quality improvement initiatives with the clinical specialist and other healthcare professionals.
Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited Speech-Language Pathology program.
  • Speech-Language Pathology certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
  • One year of experience in the field of Speech Pathology.
