Key Responsibilities

As a Junior Traffic Engineering Specialist in our traffic division, you will collaborate under the guidance of a licensed professional engineer (PE) and a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) to support multidisciplinary project teams in both public and private sectors.

In this role, you will engage with a wide range of traffic operations, safety assessments, and transportation initiatives, including:

  • Traffic forecasting and modeling
  • Intersection and signal design
  • Safety evaluations
  • ADA compliance and trail design
  • Planning studies

You will have the chance to create safe, efficient, and reliable transportation systems that cater to all travel modes within our communities and across the nation for years to come. Success in this position requires a willingness to learn various new skills through mentorship and independent review of documents that adhere to national best practices and client-specific standards. You will need to apply critical thinking to these standards to produce high-quality construction plans and effectively communicate methods and results through presentations, memos, and reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program is required, or a bachelor's degree in civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program along with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • A master's degree in civil engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • Prior internship or relevant consulting experience is advantageous.
  • Basic understanding of standard civil engineering techniques, principles, and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment, demonstrating critical thinking abilities.
  • Proficient in computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Basic knowledge of software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD, and civil analysis programs.
  • Strong attention to detail, teamwork, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification is preferred.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred.
  • Active involvement on campus or in the community is preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the country where this position is located.
