Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Carpenter to join our team at Wilmington College. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in carpentry and be able to perform a variety of tasks related to building construction and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design and Finish Carpentry: Apply design and finish carpentry skills to various projects, including the installation of cabinetry, laminated countertops, shelving, baseboards, cabinets, laminating doors, paneling, and other related tasks.
  2. Rough Carpentry: Complete rough carpentry projects such as building dumpster enclosures, installing shingles, framing walls, installing drywall, building floors, tile repair, and other related tasks in accordance with local building codes.
  3. Liaison and Inspection: Act as a liaison with vendors on remodels and new construction, inspecting vendor quality and assessing performance.
  4. Ceiling Systems: Install ceiling systems of all types, including textured plaster ceilings, drywall, acoustical drop ceilings, moldings, and plaster ceilings.
  5. Window Installation: Install all types of windows, both as new construction or replacements, and perform glass repair, cutting, and sizing.
  6. Supply Management: Complete requisitions and track/expedite supplies as needed, handle and process Job Tickets calling for basic repairs, and perform various types of basic labor on all college projects.
  7. Miscellaneous Tasks: Assist with animal/pest control, operate forklift, snow removal equipment, and tractor with bucket, attend weekly and monthly meetings, collaborate with other trades in the design of projects, and maintain a clean and safe worksite.
Requirements
  1. Education and Experience: High School Diploma plus technical certification and at least two years of related experience in the skilled trades, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Skills and Knowledge: Strong experience in building trades, including rough and finish carpentry, basic knowledge of electricity, plumbing, architectural hardware, plastic laminate work, and drywall finishing.
  3. Physical Demands: Ability to lift over 65 pounds, climb and work on roofs, and crouch and crawl in enclosed spaces.
  4. Work Environment: Ability to work safely and productively as a member of the maintenance staff.
