POSITION SUMMARY:
The Clinical Support Nurse (CSN) plays a pivotal role by offering on-site expert guidance to Patient Care Services Staff in intricate patient care scenarios. The CSN is responsible for educating and assisting staff in acquiring essential patient care competencies that necessitate further training, may require clinical certification, and are not readily available through unit-specific avenues. Additionally, the CSN has designated direct patient care obligations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Facilitate the development of clinical skills among staff and assist in resolving complex patient care challenges.
2. Instruct and support staff in initiating and managing intravascular therapy.
3. Deliver direct care in selected complex patient care situations.
4. Effectively negotiate to achieve consensus with staff and management.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To excel in this role, an individual must successfully fulfill each essential duty as outlined in the annual competency assessment. Reasonable accommodations may be made, where feasible, to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

EDUCATION:
Graduate of a recognized professional nursing program. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or actively pursuing a BSN is preferred. Must hold a current RN Registration or a Limited Permit to practice in the State of New York.

EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of three years of recent acute care clinical experience in specific patient populations served.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Demonstrates effective communication with patients, family members, and colleagues. Actively listens and clarifies messages. Engages others to achieve consensus and applies problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills in communication. Utilizes the Chain of Command as necessary to achieve optimal outcomes. Reads and interprets documents such as Quality Reports and Hospital Policies.

Adheres to the highest standards of ethical conduct as defined by Albany Medical Center and the principles of the Professional Nursing Organization. Exhibits conscientiousness in record-keeping and demonstrates sound judgment in job functions and interactions. Accepts direction, collaborates with others, and avoids unnecessary conflict. Complies with Albany Medical Center's policies, standards, and practices while utilizing problem-solving processes for grievances or disagreements. Anticipates and resolves potential issues to ensure the delivery of quality patient care. REASONING ABILITY:
Identifies issues, gathers data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions. Addresses practical problems and navigates various situations where limited standardization exists. Interprets a range of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to probe, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, and communicate verbally. The employee may occasionally be required to sit and perform tasks such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be exposed to infectious materials and chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate. This role necessitates that the employee be physically present on-site, as the work cannot be conducted remotely.
