The Department of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking a highly skilled Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Physicist to join our team. This physicist will play a crucial role in providing technical support for MRI imaging, with a focus on functional MRI (fMRI) imaging. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safe and effective use of MR imaging equipment, including fMRI equipment and ancillary equipment.
ResponsibilitiesClinical MRI Physics Responsibilities- Monitor and provide technical support for MRI imaging, with an emphasis on functional MR (fMRI) imaging, of patients that require physics monitoring.
- Assist in establishing institutional policies and guidelines regarding the safe and effective use of MR imaging equipment, including fMRI equipment and ancillary equipment necessary to effectively perform routine and novel clinical applications of fMRI.
- Assist in customizing fMRI imaging hardware and/or software, while ensuring conformity with regulatory constraints and institutional policies and guidelines.
- Trouble-shoot clinical fMRI issues on the imaging equipment, including identifying and ameliorating image artifacts and other problems affecting clinical image quality.
- Contribute technical input to inform decisions regarding purchasing new MR and fMRI imaging equipment, perform required acceptance testing of new MRI and fMRI imaging equipment, and conduct ongoing Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) of existing MR and fMRI imaging equipment.
- Develop and implement clinical fMRI protocols.
- Serve as an institutional subject matter expert regarding specialized principles of MRI.
- Support the research activities of other fMRI investigators throughout the department.
- Develop and maintain tools and infrastructure to facilitate departmental and core fMRI research initiatives.
- Write and submit grant applications to secure funding to support independent fMRI research projects.
- Conduct innovative fMRI research in collaboration with other UW faculty and scientists in the Department of Radiology, investigated in departments and schools across campus, and industrial partners.
- Educate and train clinical and research faculty, staff, and trainees on the basic physical and technical principles of fMRI.
