About the Role

A. O. Smith Corporation is seeking a highly skilled HVAC Lab Technician to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a critical role in the evaluation, development, and innovation of new products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support and input to the engineering team in the evaluation and development of new products.
  • Work with the engineering team to develop and test boilers, water heaters, and heat pumps by performing various duties, including building product prototypes, fabricating assemblies, and conducting non-standard product development tests.
  • Utilize various power and non-power tools to build prototypes and test equipment.
  • Read and interpret engineering documents, such as CAD drawings, electrical schematics, and piping and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Fabricate complex test fixtures to accomplish unique product development test requirements.
  • Conduct operational performance tests and evaluations for complete units and/or individual components.
  • Record test procedures and results with both numerical and graphical data and present results to the engineering team and other lab technicians.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with a minimum of 6 months of related experience.
  • Fabrication skills, such as welding, brazing, or soldering.
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment used in a lab environment.
Working Conditions
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand.
  • The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
