Job Title: Contract Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Contract Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Simplexity Product Development. As a key member of our product development team, you will be responsible for designing and integrating complex mechanical systems, problem-solving, and creating design solutions that incorporate various materials and manufacturing methods.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and integration of complex mechanical systems
  • Problem-solving and design solutions that incorporate injection-molded plastic, machined, 3D printed, off-the-shelf, and sheet metal parts
  • Manage assemblies of components and bill of materials and create 2D drawings using GD&T standards
  • Identify appropriate manufacturing methods for prototyping and production
  • Evaluate prototypes to test specifications and then improve upon the design
  • Work closely and communicate regularly with clients to keep stakeholders apprised of project status, issues, design decisions, and risks
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical degree from an accredited four-year university
  • 4+ years of relevant, professional engineering experience
  • Very proficient knowledge of Creo Parametric 3D modeling required (no beginners please)
  • Proficient in plastic part design for injection molding, ID driven enclosures
  • Willingness to manage all aspects of design from concept to prototyping/manufacturing, including detailed 2D drawings using GD&T standards
  • Excellent organization and analytical skills combined with attention to detail. Ability to prioritize and plan effectively
  • Have a positive attitude and focus on client success
  • Ethical and honest in every part of the job
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Robotics and instrumentation design experience
  • Mechatronics, electronics knowledge, and programming
  • Finite Element Analysis, Computation Flow Dynamics, or experience in other simulation packages
Compensation and Benefits:

We offer two types of contractor roles:

  • 1. 1099 contractors (have your own registered consulting/contracting business)
  • Hourly rate $100 - $130/hr, depending on experience
  • No benefits, holidays, or paid time off (PTO) included
  • 2. W-2 contractor (employee of Simplexity)
  • Hourly rate $75 - $95/hr, depending on experience
  • Excellent Healthcare plan (Medical, Dental, and Vision) fully paid for by the company for the employee; partial payment for dependents
  • 401(k) plan with company match after 1,000 hours of service
  • Long-term and short-term disability, AD&D and Life Insurance
  • No holidays or PTO
  • Paid Sick Time eligible on the 90th day of employment, accruing 1 hour for each 40 hours worked
