As a Rehabilitation Therapy Specialist, you will conduct comprehensive assessments and deliver targeted treatment utilizing advanced clinical expertise in a specialized area of occupational therapy for patients referred to various facilities associated with the Rehabilitation Institute. You will also serve as a clinical mentor for fellow staff members and may engage in instructional roles with academic institutions. Participation in research initiatives within the Rehabilitation Institute is encouraged.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure meticulous documentation for all occupational therapy services provided, including initial assessments, follow-up sessions, and discharge summaries, adhering to departmental standards. Co-sign documentation from occupational therapy assistants on a biweekly basis.
  • Effectively communicate patient progress to referring physicians and other healthcare team members.
  • Complete necessary billing and statistical documentation to accurately represent the services provided to patients.
  • Schedule patient appointments to maintain productivity levels that meet or exceed organizational standards while ensuring high-quality patient care.
  • Provide verbal and/or written home care instructions to patients and their families when applicable.
  • Contribute to the clinical education program by supervising students from various universities during their internships as requested.
  • Maintain professional licensure through ongoing participation in relevant continuing education and professional development opportunities to fulfill renewal requirements.
  • Conduct occupational therapy assessments, reassessments, and treatments while supervising occupational therapy assistants in the care of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients referred by physicians. Develop individualized care plans that include goals and treatment strategies based on physician referrals, the nature of the patient's condition, and assessment results. Adjust care plans as necessary based on patient responses and changes in their condition, collaborating with occupational therapy assistants to modify patient programs accordingly.
  • Rotate through designated treatment areas as needed to meet organizational demands.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and in-service educational programs.
  • Graduate from an accredited program recognized by The Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).
  • Possess the knowledge and skills essential for delivering exceptional customer service.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Active licensure in the practicing state is required. CPR certification is mandatory based on AHA standards, which includes both theoretical and practical components.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Occupational Therapist (OT)
