Job Summary:

This position performs inspections of exterior improvement projects to ensure conformity to issued land development permits, quality of work, and adherence to the subdivision and land development ordinance.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Inspect construction projects involving private roads, sidewalks, storm and sanitary sewers, water mains, site grading, curb and gutter, parking lots, retention ponds, drainage ditches, and drainage improvements.
  2. Inspect quality of materials, quality of work, layout of work, and conformance with the subdivision and land development ordinance, coordinating inspections with other inspectors as needed.
  3. Perform preliminary and final inspections, entering results into the department database.
  4. Approve or disapprove construction based on conformity with village codes and ordinances.
  5. Provide technical assistance to residents and property owners regarding stormwater drainage issues.
  6. Responsible for serving notice and seeking resolution when infractions of adopted codes and ordinances are observed.
  7. Coordinate with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District for final inspections of sanitary sewers and/or storm sewer and detention systems.
  8. Research and complete annual detention inspections, enforcing compliance with village codes and ordinances.
  9. Perform special projects and surveys related to drainage issues.
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree in engineering technology or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in engineering construction, with comprehensive knowledge of approved methods, materials, practices, and safeguards of land development, and interpreting construction prints and drawings.
  • Certification as a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency with current computer technology, job-specific software, and customer service systems.
