Boeing Phantom Works Space is at the forefront of developing innovative products and services for the Boeing Defense, Space & Security sector. We are currently seeking a Lead Satellite Communications Systems Engineer to become an integral part of our team.

We are looking for a creative, independent, and driven engineer to join our Space Resiliency Organization. This role involves collaborating with our senior Network Architect to spearhead the creation of cutting-edge technologies for a diverse range of government clients. Our engineers prioritize rapid prototyping to showcase mission-critical capabilities, starting from technology investment and concept development through to design, integration, testing, and demonstration of products in relevant environments.

The selected engineer will be instrumental in conceptualizing initial designs for satellite networks, both in space and on the ground. Responsibilities will encompass network architecture, design, technology selection, testing, and the establishment of network policies. This role will involve outlining the framework for the specifications of the networks' physical components and the protocols used in managing and operating computer networks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop architectures for Satellite Vehicle command and control systems.
  • Create high-level system designs for Space to Ground interactions.
  • Develop satellite operational concepts, including operational threads and functional flows.
  • Provide Model-Based Systems Engineering support for digital threads and requirements modeling.
  • Contribute to the evolution of software development processes.
  • Advocate for and implement a Modular Open System Approach.
  • Establish methodologies for system testing.

Work Environment:

This position requires full onsite engagement. The chosen candidate will be expected to work at one of the designated locations.

Security Clearance:

An active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance is required for this position.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, mathematics, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in communications engineering.
  • At least 2 years of experience with satellite or space-based communication systems.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with Satellite Command and Control Standards.
  • Ability to provide technical solutions and processes.
  • Experience in designing initial architectures for satellite communications.
  • Understanding of the Government System Acquisition Process.

Education and experience typically acquired through advanced technical education and relevant work experience.
