Job Summary

The Medication Assistant (MA) plays a vital role in providing resident-centered care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a charge nurse.

As a Medication Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting residents with basic health care needs, including daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, and providing psycho-social support.

You will also be responsible for administering prescribed medications as delegated by a licensed nurse and within your scope of practice as defined by state regulations.

Additional responsibilities include documenting outcomes related to resident care, medication administration, behavior, activity, and dietary, as well as communicating changing conditions, medication follow-up, and care-related concerns/responses to the charge nurse.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a high school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) and a minimum age of 18. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care is preferred.

You will also need to satisfactorily complete yearly department-specific competency testing and maintain a record of continuing education credits for each year. A minimum of 12 hours of continuing education are required annually based on state requirements.

Additionally, you will need to maintain all department-specific required certifications, including nursing assistant certification, completion of a state-approved Trained Medication Assistant course, and certified/trained medication aide certification (CMA or TMA).
