Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Librarian Media Specialist to join our team at Hays CISD. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing the operation of the school library/media center, providing services and resources to students, and serving as a teacher, materials expert, and curriculum adviser.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instructional Support
    • Plan and implement an effective school library program that meets identified needs and creates a library/media center environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interests of students.
    • Make recommendations for acquisitions and manage the processing, organizing, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of library/media resources.
    • Assist teachers in preparation of curriculum guides, lesson plans, and bibliographies.
    • Develop and maintain up-to-date resource files, including instructional program schedules and other community resources.
    • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
    • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the library/media center program and make changes based on the findings.
  • Student Management
    • Carry out student discipline in accordance with board policies and administrative regulations.
  • Administration
    • Compile, budget, and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
    • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
    • Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
    • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
    • Direct the work of clerical aide(s), student aides, and volunteers.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in library and information science from an accredited college or university (for individuals certified after January 23, 2001)
  • Valid Texas school librarian certificate or endorsement
  • Three years' experience in library/media center in a public school setting
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in a standard office environment with standard office equipment, including a computer and peripherals, and standard library equipment, including imaging equipment. The position requires regular sitting, standing, kneeling, squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. The candidate will also be required to work alone and be exposed to biological and chemical hazards such as mold and dust.
