Job Description

At HNTB, we are seeking a highly skilled Project Manager I - Engineering to join our team. As a key member of our ITS and Emerging Mobility Section, you will be responsible for managing assigned projects throughout their full lifecycle, including developing scope and technical sections of proposal and procurement documents, participating in contract negotiations, and overseeing the delivery of the project plan to successfully accomplish HNTB's 4 for 4 performance: delivery of quality work, on time, on budget, and to the client's satisfaction on every project.

This role requires a strong understanding of project management principles, including budgeting, scheduling, technical requirements, contractual obligations, and client communications. You will work closely with clients such as PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, managing project teams for one or more strategic projects, and implementing HNTB's Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA) and Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA).

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience, with 2 years of task management or Deputy PM experience. A Master's degree in Engineering and 10 years of relevant experience are preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) certification and Project Management Professional (PMP) certification are also highly valued.

As a Project Manager I - Engineering, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing project scope and fee quotations, and assisting in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts.
  • Serving as the primary client liaison and managing project teams to deliver scope, schedule, and budgets to completion and to the client's satisfaction.
  • Performing technical discipline tasks, including analysis, reports, design, specification, and production for assigned projects.
  • Implementing HNTB's project delivery plan using the Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project.
  • Leading the development and execution of the project management plan, supervising and mentoring team members to overall project objectives.
  • Coordinating with managers on project staffing, including recruitment, development, retention, and succession of project staff.
  • Partnering with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, building client relationships, and pursuit efforts for strategic and mini-mega projects.
  • Recruiting, hiring, developing, and retaining staff, including developing plans for staff reporting, performance, and compensation reviews, and succession.
