Job Title: Nurse III

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nurse III to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and leadership to our nursing staff.

Job Summary:

The Nurse III will be responsible for observing, assessing, planning, intervening, and evaluating patient care outcomes. You will possess a unique knowledge of the patient population and coordinate scheduling within assigned areas. As a leader, you will provide primary management for service areas during assigned shifts, supervise, counsel, and evaluate other nursing staff, and collaborate with Nurse Coordinators and Mental Health Supervisors to ensure 24-hour continuity of care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess patient health and mental status upon admission and on an ongoing basis, documenting assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in patient records.
  • Provide direction and coordination of staffing and patient care activities on assigned units, addressing performance problems promptly and keeping accurate documentation of interventions.
  • Facilitate a smooth admission and/or transfer process, communicating with admissions staff, unit staff, and reviewing written documentation to ensure appropriate status and triage patients when needed.
  • Carry out medical staff practitioners' orders and implement nursing interventions according to acceptable nursing care standards and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Implement special precautions as ordered, explain and document rights restrictions, and implement restraint/seclusion procedures according to departmental policy and established nursing standards.
  • Attend mandatory training to ensure staff competence and development, and participate in on-going in-service and other education and training programs appropriate to the population/age group.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of recognized American Nurses Association Nursing Standards.
  • Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Skills in supervisory and management techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and critical thinking skills.
