Job Summary

This is a challenging role that requires a high level of dedication and commitment to providing exceptional care and support to youths. As a Youth Care Specialist I-II, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily activities of an assigned group of youth, ensuring their safety and well-being, and promoting their social adjustment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee Daily Activities: Supervise and participate in the daily activities of an assigned group of youth, including recreation, education, rehabilitation, and treatment activities, meals, personal hygiene, and maintaining living quarters.
  • Monitor Behavior: Observe and report on the behavior and adjustment of youths to programs, exchanging written and oral reports with other staff daily.
  • Establish Relationships: Develop and maintain interpersonal relationships with youths to encourage and assist with their social adjustment.
  • Teach and Interpret: Interpret and teach facility procedures, rules, and disciplinary policies to youths.
  • Implement Security Procedures: Implement facility security procedures, including performing regular unit, room, and grounds checks, conducting community/home visits, and ensuring frequent observations and monitoring of high-risk youths.
  • Assist in Disturbances: Assist in the handling of serious disturbances and monitor incoming and outgoing visitors to the facility.
  • Escort Youths: Escort youths to activities and appointments inside or outside of the facility, supervising and conducting them in all settings.
  • Prepare Records: Prepare, maintain, and contribute to a variety of records and reports to document information relating to youth, including behavior management, treatment plans, progress notes, population reports, and inventories.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Education: Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Age: At least 21 years of age.
  • Behavior Management: Knowledge of behavior management, including understanding, explaining, describing, and predicting behavior, studying the connection between behavior and its causes, and identifying appropriate behavior modification strategies for individual situations.
  • Youth Supervision: Knowledge of supervising youth by overseeing daily activities such as recreation, treatment activities, meals, self-care, transportation, or education.
  • Narrative Report Writing: Knowledge of narrative report writing.
  • Driver's License: Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked, or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

For Youth Care Specialist II, you must also have:

  • Experience: Six months' experience in maintaining the security and safety of individuals and facilities.
  • Behavior Management: Six months' experience in behavior management, including understanding, explaining, describing, and predicting behavior, studying the connection between behavior and its causes, and identifying appropriate behavior modification strategies for individual situations.
  • Youth Supervision: Six months' experience in supervising youth by overseeing daily activities such as recreation, treatment activities, meals, self-care, transportation, or education.
  • Narrative Report Writing: Six months' experience in narrative report writing.
