Job Description

AOSense, Inc. is a leading developer and manufacturer of innovative quantum technologies employing atom optics.

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to design and implement control systems for fieldable atom optic (AO) gyroscopes, accelerometers, absolute gravimeters, gravity gradiometers, inertial measurement units (IMUs), magnetometers, and atomic frequency standards.

The ideal candidate will have an unusually broad background covering several diverse technologies including low-noise analog, low-jitter digital, rf/microwave, high voltage, microcontrollers, systems on a chip (SoCs), field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), and application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs).

You will work with scientists and engineers to define control system requirements and architectures, oversee the fabrication and testing of AO sensor control hardware, and support the completed hardware through the performance validation phase.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with physicists, instrument designers, and code developers to specify sensor control requirements and make optimal trade-offs
  • Guide the definition of control architectures for sensors
  • Design low-noise analog, digital, and rf/microwave electronics
  • Iterate existing electronics designs to adapt them for new operating conditions
  • Conduct and participate in design reviews
  • Create schedules and budgets for control system development
  • Create work plans for electronics staff
  • Track progress of electronics staff relative to project schedules
  • Manage outsourced electronics development
  • Collaborate with coders on development of software, firmware, and gateware
  • Document new devices with block diagrams, schematics, interface control documents, bills of material, cable drawings, test procedures, and datasheets
  • Contribute to proposals for further sensor development and applications

Requirements:

  • Experience selecting architectures for complex electronic instrumentation
  • Demonstrated expertise in low-noise analog circuit development
  • Deep understanding of noise sources in electronic systems
  • Ability to critically evaluate electronics designs spanning a broad range of technologies
  • Experience supervising and reviewing complex PCB layouts
  • Expertise defining test plans for control electronics
  • Demonstrated success in on-time and on-budget management of electronics development
  • Proficiency with EE CAD tools (e.g., OrCAD, PADS, Altium, LTSpice, Mathcad, MATLAB)
  • Thorough operational knowledge of standard diagnostic equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers)
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Applicants should thrive in a dynamic environment
  • U.S. Government contracts require applicants to be U.S. citizens or permanent residents

Desired Experience:

  • Experience with low-noise laser drivers and photodetectors, proportional, integral, differential (PID) control circuits, low-phase noise rf sources, and direct digital synthesizers (DDSs)
  • Expertise developing instruments employing microcontrollers and Xilinx Zynq SoCs
  • Successful implementation of FPGA-based real-time measurement systems
  • Experience managing the development of high-performance ASICs
  • Successful management of code development
  • Familiarity with the qualification of electronics for foreign markets

Education:

A Master's degree or doctorate in electrical engineering with 5 years of related experience, or equivalent professional experience

Benefits:

  • Salary depends on qualifications and experience
  • Medical and dental benefits
  • Retirement plan
  • Stock plan
