Job Summary

We are seeking a talented Senior Mechanical Engineer to be based in Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate will have a passion for designing building mechanical systems and supporting junior staff. The Engineer will work in a highly collaborative environment on a wide range of projects, performing technical calculations and design, understanding project requirements, and completing work with limited supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mechanical engineering from conceptual design through construction administration and post-occupancy
  • Writing reports for internal and external purposes based on findings
  • Staying current on codes and technologies appropriate to the Mechanical discipline
  • Researching, developing, designing, specifying, and witnessing the testing of mechanical systems, equipment, components, and materials, applying principles and techniques of mechanical engineering
  • Organizing and conducting site visits for the purpose of data collection and evaluation of mechanical systems, equipment, components, and materials for projects with and without well-defined scopes
  • Developing designs within a BIM design environment
  • Developing, designing, and specifying equipment, components, and materials for all building
  • Coordinating with multiple disciplines and acting as mechanical engineer point of contact to ensure that projects are delivered within budget and on schedule
  • Assisting in proposal preparation in conjunction with the senior leadership of the office
  • Managing and working on multiple projects with other team members
  • Ensuring discipline plans that are created meet overall project team requirements for project scope and schedule
  • Reviewing team member's work for quality and recognition of training requirements
Requirements
  • BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or similar field +6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration
  • Strong mechanical code knowledge including International Fuel Gas Code, ASHRAE standards, NFPA and other relevant codes and standards
  • Experience in designing complex hydronic systems, steam, VRF systems and sustainable designs
  • Experience in developing specification books
  • Instrumentation and controls design/engineering experience
  • Revit and CAD experience
  • Ability to use load calculation software such as Trace700 and other energy modeling softwares such as eQuest, IES
  • Competent in all conventional aspects of mechanical engineering and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard mechanical engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria
  • Plumbing and Fire Protection system design experience
  • Medical gas piping design experience is highly preferred
  • Experience in the following markets: Healthcare, Laboratories, Mission Critical, Justice, and Higher Education projects
  • Experience with sustainable design and certification
  • Excellent communication skills: articulate, assertive, and confident
  • Creative thinker with effective teamwork skills
  • Analyze equipment energy use for optimizing systems selection
About the Role

This will be a hybrid position; up to 2 days work from home. Due to the nature of this work, US Citizenship is required, sponsorship is not available for this position. Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $125,000.00 - $165,000.00.
