About the Role:

The Interior Designer at Red Thread provides design services to customers, including site and inventory verifications, programming, space planning, typical development, finish & material selection, installation drawings and specifications. The successful candidate will work closely with Sales, Account Managers, Project Managers and customers to ensure conformance to customer requirements, high quality implementation and customer satisfaction. They will develop thoughtful furniture applications that support client culture and help drive organizational success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Planning: Collaborate with sales and clients to develop creative furniture solutions that support project needs.
  • Site Verification: Attend customer planning meetings, and present furniture concepts and information to customers for review and approval.
  • Inventory and Site Management: Review site, conduct field measurements and plan-to-site adherence checks, verify existing inventory/product, and produce as-built drawings/specifications.
  • Programming and Reporting: Conduct programming by interviewing customers/end/users and produce reports, develop and present block/space plans.
  • Finish and Material Selection: Select, develop and present finish and material selections to customers.
  • Drawings and Specifications: Develop finished working drawings for specification and installation, validate plans against construction, electrical and A & D drawing set, develop product specifications, verify specifications against plans, produce order-ready specifications utilizing technology, and verify accuracy and correctness.
  • Project Management: Manage changes and revisions, conduct field review during/after installation with Project Managers &/or installation crew.

Departmental Practices:

  • Design Budgets and Time Management: Provide design budgets for projects, maintain daily timesheets, manage actual time against budgets.
  • Project Documentation: Maintain detailed project documentation including records of key decisions, approvals and sign-offs and notes from customer/internal meetings.
  • Schedule and Budget Management: Manage adherence to project schedule and budgets, communicate regularly on assignment status.
  • Plan and Specification Management: Ensure complete and accurate plans/specifications are order ready.
  • Interface and Communication: May be required to conduct organizational interfaces with client, A&D firms, contractors, project managers, sales, sales administration, internal operations personnel, and installation crews.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Education: BS/BA/BFA degree in Interior, Industrial or Architectural Design.
  • Experience: 5+ years' experience in furniture/office/space planning, dealership or manufacturer experience preferred.
  • Skills and Abilities: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and CET, basic Revit proficiency, intermediate PC skills including Microsoft Windows, Excel and Word, solid interpersonal skills, ability to communicate (both oral and written) effectively and professionally with both internal and external customers, possess solid knowledge of best practices for furniture design, possess solid furniture product knowledge, able to learn and apply new product knowledge in a timely manner, excellent problem-solving ability and follow through, strong attention to detail and highly organized, works well under pressure, excels at multi-tasking and prioritizing work flow.
