Overview:

The Building Attendant I is responsible for performing essential duties related to the cleanliness and maintenance of facilities within a collegiate environment. This role involves both routine and specialized tasks, including the preparation and dismantling of venues for events, as well as the movement of furniture and equipment. The individual will ensure that all areas are maintained in a hygienic, organized, and secure manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough cleaning of various spaces including offices, classrooms, and recreational facilities, as well as restrooms and residential areas.
  • Perform floor care tasks such as scrubbing, refinishing, and operating cleaning machinery.
  • Manage waste disposal and recycling efforts, including the removal of graffiti.
  • Assist in the setup and breakdown of furniture for meetings and events, ensuring proper arrangement and organization.
  • Maintain and service vending machines, as well as manage security systems for the facilities.
  • Order and organize cleaning supplies, ensuring that storage areas are well-maintained and stocked.
  • Carry out minor repairs and maintenance tasks, including replacing light bulbs and performing basic equipment upkeep.
  • Engage in emergency response activities as required.
  • Support the College's commitment to community principles and diversity in all job functions.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of cleaning methods, safety protocols, and the proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Ability to learn and apply fire safety procedures.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring bending, climbing, and prolonged standing.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, in English.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues.
  • Willingness to adhere to uniform and safety equipment requirements.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent experience, with a minimum of two years in custodial or facility maintenance roles.

Work Environment:

The work environment is typically quiet to moderate in noise level, with reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.

Employment Status:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position eligible for benefits, with scheduled hours from Monday to Friday.
