Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead Automation Systems Engineer is responsible for providing strategic direction and technical expertise in the realm of automation design and equipment fabrication. This role is pivotal in enhancing product and process efficiency while fostering innovation in automation technologies. The engineer will spearhead initiatives aimed at delivering new products and refining existing manufacturing processes through automation and standardization.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Guide a team of engineers, designers, and technicians to meet the industrialization goals of Flexan.
  • Offer hands-on leadership to enhance technical skills and align resources with global automation objectives.
  • Collaborate with New Product Development (NPD) and New Product Introduction (NPI) teams to implement equipment and process enhancements.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of PLC software, HMI interfaces, and automation integration.
  • Develop and specify equipment requirements that fulfill organizational and process needs.
  • Establish strong relationships with suppliers and integrators to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Lead project teams in creating machine specifications and troubleshooting documentation.
  • Promote equipment standardization across various plants and processes.
  • Set technical direction, manage vendor selection, and oversee project budgets related to automation and equipment fabrication.
  • Provide hands-on leadership in the design, installation, and debugging of next-generation manufacturing equipment.
  • Continuously seek opportunities for process automation and equipment enhancement on a global scale.
  • Manage project timelines and budgets effectively.
  • Work closely with vendors and experts to introduce innovative equipment solutions.
  • Mentor team members in the design of new equipment and systems using SolidWorks.
  • Implement long-term solutions to performance challenges and integrate new technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental, Safety, and Health standards.
  • Engage in additional automation and equipment-related activities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with at least 12 years of relevant experience, including leadership of technical project teams.
  • Strong analytical skills to define problems, gather data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 and advanced CAD & 3D modeling software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Willingness to travel up to 20% as needed.
  • Position requires 100% onsite presence.
