Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Water Distribution Operator-In-Training to join our team at the City of Idaho Falls, ID. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of our water distribution systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist skilled Water Distribution Operators in installing, renewing, or repairing water service lines, including clamping leaks and installing copper tubing, curb and corporation stops, and fittings.
  • Install, renew, or repair water mains and services, including tapping mains to make water service and main line connections.
  • Read and repair water meters and meter pits, and repair leaks in the water system.
  • Assist with the inspection of water system construction within City right-of-way to verify compliance with City standards and requirements.
  • Conduct fire flow testing for fire hydrants using specialized flow and pressure testing equipment.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • No experience required, but ability to adapt to emergency or unusual situations is essential.
  • Ability to perform manual tasks for a sustained period of time and tolerate extremes in the work environment.
  • Valid Idaho State Driver's License required, with the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement within 12 months of hire.
  • Ability to work effectively with fellow employees, supervisors, and the public.
