The Patient Access team plays a crucial role in ensuring a seamless and welcoming experience for patients entering our healthcare facility. As a key member of this team, the Patient Access Representative is responsible for initiating encounters for patients who qualify for hospital services. This role demands meticulous attention to detail in data entry, encompassing both demographic and financial information for each patient account.
Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure compliance with procedural requirements, including data collection, insurance verification, service authorizations, and collection of patient payments, including any outstanding balances.
• Maintain direct communication with patients, families, healthcare providers, insurance representatives, and third-party payers.
• Exhibit professionalism in appearance and conduct, coupled with strong communication skills.
• Display reliability, adaptability, and a collaborative spirit within the team.
• This advanced position requires a comprehensive understanding of Patient Access functions across various areas, alongside the ability to exercise sound judgment in resolving customer inquiries during routine operations.
• Mentor and assist in the training of new team members, fostering a supportive learning environment.
Qualifications:
A. Education:
• A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
• An Associate Degree in a health or business-related field is preferred.
B. Skills:
• Proven expertise and extensive knowledge of Patient Access operations.
• Familiarity with regulatory standards applicable to Patient Access.
• Exceptional organizational and communication abilities.
• Strong customer service orientation.
• Proficient in process improvement methodologies.
• Recognized capability to develop, mentor, and train fellow associates.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and perform repetitive tasks efficiently.
• Competent in basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with office equipment such as printers and scanners.
• Skilled in data interpretation and analysis.
• Demonstrated success in achieving departmental collection goals.
• Ability to comprehend and retain complex information.
• Proficient in performing mathematical calculations.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology is essential.
C. Experience:
• A minimum of three years in hospital registration or a similar role is required.
D. Certifications:
• Certification as a Healthcare Access Associate through the National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM) is required.
• AAHAM Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist-Institutional (CRCS-I) certification is preferred for additional compensation considerations.
