Job Description

SEMCO Energy is seeking a highly skilled Operations Technician I to support the Construction Department with field duties relating to the installation, operation, and maintenance of gas service lines, pipelines, gas regulator stations, and meter and storage fields within the assigned geographic area.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and coordinate work orders and cost estimates.
  • Inspect new and replacement service/main installations.
  • Represent the company at various pre-construction meetings.
  • Stake service and main locations.
  • Handle customer and contractor inquiries, maintaining appropriate documentation and reports on findings and actions.
  • Prepare and present regular and special reports.
  • Assist the Construction Supervisor and backfill as needed.
  • Adhere to all internal company control procedures and financial processes.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.
  • Maintain a safe environment for co-workers, customers, and the public through adherence to established safety standards and timely reporting of potential hazards.
Requirements:
  • A high school diploma or successful completion of the GED is required, supplemented with college courses or vocational training in drafting, surveying, electrical, circuits wiring, or other related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical and/or gas distribution is required.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical & electrical principles is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills and written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong customer service and customer experience orientation.
  • Working knowledge of various personal computer business software applications presently used by the Company. Ability to learn new systems or software packages as necessary.
  • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere through effective interactions and communications with co-workers, customers, and management.
  • Ability to adhere to policies and procedures related to the code of business ethics, compliance, responsible use of Company assets, and all applicable state and federal laws.
