The individual in this role operates as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP), providing essential medical management in the Newborn Critical Care Center (NCCC) located within a leading children's hospital. This practitioner collaborates within a multidisciplinary academic setting, engaging with professionals across various levels, including students, residents, fellows, and faculty from diverse medical fields.
Recognized as one of the top children's hospitals, the Newborn Critical Care Center is a state-of-the-art facility equipped with 58 beds and supported by a team of board-certified neonatologists and numerous neonatal specialists.
Key Responsibilities:
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) plays a vital role in the interdisciplinary healthcare team, delivering high-quality, cost-effective care to patients while adhering to approved protocols and under the guidance of supervising physicians. The APP embodies the organization's mission and values, ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and standards.
The practitioner is accountable for comprehensive daily medical management of critically ill newborns, which includes: resuscitation in the delivery room, initial stabilization, mechanical ventilation, administration of medications, emergency interventions, and ongoing medical care, along with effective communication with the families of the infants.
Core Duties:
1. Clinical Responsibilities - Collects pertinent health histories, conducts thorough physical assessments, and interprets diagnostic tests. Develops and implements treatment plans, including prescribing appropriate medications, and ensures continuity of care through follow-up management. Actively participates in hospital initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care. Maintains detailed records of patient interactions and care provided.
2. Educational Role - Provides professional education to patients and families regarding medical conditions and treatment plans. Collaborates with healthcare teams to ensure patient-centered care and develops educational resources tailored to the needs of staff and students.
3. Leadership Contributions - Offers guidance and instruction to healthcare teams, including precepting and conducting training sessions. Engages in community outreach initiatives to promote health education and awareness.
4. Professional Conduct - Maintains respectful and timely interactions with patients, families, and colleagues. Demonstrates accountability for patient outcomes and collaborates effectively with team members.
5. Quality Improvement - Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities for enhancing patient care and implementing evidence-based practices.
Qualifications
Educational Background:
Completion of an accredited graduate-level Advanced Practice Provider program.
Licensure/Certification:
Must hold a valid license as an Advanced Practice Provider in the relevant state, with board certification as required.
Experience:
No prior experience is necessary.
Skills and Competencies:
Demonstrated clinical proficiency, effective leadership abilities, strong interpersonal skills, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
