The ideal candidate will possess advanced knowledge in stormwater management techniques and methodologies, a solid understanding of land survey prerequisites, and a high level of proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for earthworks analysis.

This role requires serving as a civil subject matter expert (SME). Responsibilities will encompass a range of tasks from intricate earthworks analysis to providing RFI support during construction phases. A strong technical background, excellent CAD skills, and comprehensive land development knowledge are essential for effective collaboration with internal teams, external consultants, and EPC contractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and apply stormwater and erosion control standards on Urban Grid projects from initial design concepts through to detailed design, ensuring compliance with project-specific requirements while optimizing site usability for solar development.
  • Conduct earthworks analysis and value engineering throughout various project stages to inform design decisions, racking structure selection, and civil grading strategies.
  • Analyze geotechnical data to identify potential risks and challenges related to shallow bedrock, steep slopes, wetlands, stormwater features, and setback regulations.
  • Develop technical exhibits to facilitate real estate leases, construction coordination, landowner agreements, and project-related communications, including AutoCAD Civil 3D analyses and earthworks.
  • Review ALTA surveys, landowner agreements, and land use approvals to ensure adherence to construction plan requirements.
  • Collaborate directly with civil engineering consultants to produce civil construction drawings and design packages that support permitting and EPC bidding for large-scale solar power plants.
  • Assist in the preparation of quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and bid packages for EPC solicitations, and actively engage in the bid review and award process.
  • Work alongside civil consultants and EPC partners to ensure compliance with contractual obligations, AHJ requirements, industry design standards, and applicable laws and codes.
  • Review detailed civil construction drawings to enhance communication with internal departments, external consultants, permitting agencies, and contractors.
  • Provide recommendations and mitigation strategies to address risks, cost implications, and anticipated construction challenges during the design phase.
  • Assess third-party proposals for civil, survey, and geotechnical services, making informed recommendations to the Development Project Manager.
  • Oversee early civil design and material take-offs from third parties, coordinating with internal teams for accurate project cost estimates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of civil engineering experience is required, with at least 2 years in renewable energy projects preferred.
  • Ability to lead project execution and resolve issues collaboratively.
  • Self-motivated with the capability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to coordinate efforts across multiple disciplines and organizations.
  • Proficiency in Google Earth, KMZ files, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong skills in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including the ability to analyze, manipulate, and produce Civil 3D surfaces.
