Job Title: Site Safety and Health Officer

This position has the overall responsibility to implement safety, health and environmental programs and procedures within the worksite in pursuit of a zero-incident culture.

Maintain best practices designed to enhance and improve regulatory compliance, as well as minimize industrial injuries/illness, workers' compensation costs, property damage and other general liability losses.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in safety and health, with experience in implementing and maintaining safety programs, conducting hazard assessments, and developing control measures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the protection of the safety and health of personnel while on the worksite
  • Create and implement the requirements of the Health and Safety Plan (HASP or APP Accident Prevention Plan)
  • Evaluate personnel performing tasks and determine that all personnel are properly trained, qualified, equipped, and physically protected from site and operational hazards
  • Effectively implement the site-specific safety and health program
  • Initiate and authorize a Stop Work order for any imminent S&H concerns
  • Lead daily safety meetings and conduct and document site training related to site-specific hazards
  • Specify proper levels of PPE, per the requirements of the HASP
  • Investigate and report in a timely manner any injuries, illnesses, accidents, incidents, or near misses, and ensure that proper procedures are followed through the investigation
  • Conduct visitor orientation, daily safety inspections, and weekly safety audits
  • Properly complete the requisite safety and health related forms to capture required safety and health data
  • Provide the Site Supervisor with task hazard data for any new tasks or any tasks that significantly change during the conduct of site operations
  • Assess each task and assess the effective implementation of the safety and health provisions required by the HASP
Qualifications:
  • Must be able to work weekends and more than 40 hours per week
  • Must have a current First Aid and CPR Training/AED
  • Must have completed, at a minimum, the 30 hour OSHA Construction Industry Safety Class
  • Either/or 10 years Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) experience in similar project OR a college degree with (5) years of construction industry safety experience on similar projects
  • Experience supervising or managing general or industry construction (managing safety programs or processes or conducting hazard analyses and developing controls)
  • Maintained experience through having taken 24 hours of documented formal or on-line safety and health related coursework in the past 3 years
  • Training must be applicable to the work being performed on the contract
