The Heavy Equipment Mechanic (HEM) plays a crucial role in diagnosing and repairing a variety of military and civilian wheeled vehicles, including light, medium, and heavy equipment. This position requires collaboration within a skilled team of mechanics to troubleshoot issues and service equipment using both traditional and advanced diagnostic tools.
Key ResponsibilitiesThis job description may evolve to meet the needs of the program or organization.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Conducts routine and emergency maintenance on wheeled vehicles and trailers.
- Evaluates, tests, and operates wheeled equipment (both commercial and military) to assess functionality and readiness.
- Refuels and services equipment with necessary fluids, disassembles and reassembles faulty components.
- Removes, repairs, cleans, and reinstalls parts and accessories as needed.
- Ensures proper disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with environmental regulations.
- Operates and inspects wheeled equipment for maintenance and repair purposes.
- Maintains a clean and organized workspace, ensuring safety and accountability.
- Utilizes various repair and testing equipment, including Maintenance Support Devices and electrical testers.
- Completes additional tasks as assigned to fulfill organizational objectives.
- Job responsibilities may be adjusted based on contractual obligations.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid State Driver's License is mandatory.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background checks.
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of three (3) to six (6) years in wheeled equipment maintenance or a related field.
- Applicants must provide their own compliant tools as per OSHA standards.
SKILLS:
- Proficiency in servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing military and civilian wheeled equipment is essential.
- Familiarity with electronic technical manuals is required.
