Job Title: Mechanical Engineering Specialist

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to transition from other private, public, government, or military experience to a 3M career. As a Mechanical Engineering Specialist, you will work on finite element analysis (FEA) and material characterization, creating and validating material data cards, and providing customized FEA support for customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Translate user needs into design inputs/specifications and produce complex system-level designs with some guidance.
  • Advance solutions by applying in-depth knowledge of customer needs, market, and competitive offerings.
  • Characterize, model, and simulate adhesives and tapes, creating and validating material data cards, and providing customized FEA support for customers.
  • Work closely with technical teams to ensure FEA readiness for successful launch.
  • Shape industry and strengthen 3M's competitive position by publishing white papers and technical documents in relevant media.
  • Increase specification penetration in selected markets by actively assisting customers during their design-in process.
  • Educate Application Engineers and sales professionals on the basics of FEA and standard operating procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of work experience in finite-element-based modeling and simulation in a private, public, government, or military environment.
  • Additional qualifications include experience in modeling and simulation with tapes and adhesives, knowledge of using various modeling skills, advanced FEA skills, and exceptional communication skills.
