The Oncology Nursing Specialist plays a pivotal role within the Cancer Institute team at Novant Health, fostering genuine connections with patients and their support networks. This position involves collaborating with physicians and healthcare professionals to assess, design, implement, and evaluate tailored care plans that enhance health outcomes or facilitate a dignified end-of-life experience.
The nurse integrates the latest clinical evidence with empathy to guide patients through their healthcare journeys.
Key Responsibilities:
- Consultations and Follow-Up: Collaborate closely with healthcare providers to gather patient health histories and vital signs, communicate essential information, assist in examinations, and educate patients and their caregivers.
- Cross-Training Opportunities: Engage in cross-training with other providers to assist in on-treatment visits weekly.
You will monitor patients for any changes during radiation therapy, obtain vital signs, and report findings to the physician before their consultations.
Additionally, you will reinforce patient education regarding potential side effects, provide skin care guidance, assess for dehydration, administer IV fluids and medications as necessary, and assist with specialized procedures in the Radiation Oncology department.

Qualifications:
- Education: High School Diploma or GED is required; a Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of one year of relevant experience is preferred.
- Licensure/Certification: Current RN Licensure in the appropriate state is required, along with any advanced certifications mandated by the facility.
- Additional Skills: Strong customer service skills, effective communication (both verbal and non-verbal), interpersonal skills, conflict resolution abilities, critical thinking, and computer proficiency are essential.
