DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW


The Information Technology division at HudsonAlpha plays a vital role in providing essential technology platforms that support the institute's innovative research, educational initiatives, economic development efforts, and genomic medicine operations.

The research sector imposes rigorous performance standards on HudsonAlpha's technological infrastructure to maintain competitiveness in the rapidly evolving genomics landscape.

The technology team also contributes to the innovative pursuits of HudsonAlpha and its associated companies.

Responsibilities include delivering critical information infrastructure, optimizing and automating technology solutions, and developing tools and applications that support human and plant research across the HudsonAlpha campus.


POSITION SUMMARY
The Cybersecurity Specialist will be an integral member of the HudsonAlpha Cybersecurity team, dedicated to safeguarding the institute and campus environments.

This position will involve regular collaboration with architects, engineers, and developers to identify, analyze, respond to, and assess security threats and vulnerabilities.

The Specialist will be accountable for maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the institute's systems. This encompasses monitoring, collaboration, response, and documentation to enhance cybersecurity across the organization.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor, assess, and prioritize information security alerts, providing analysis, tracking remediation efforts, and escalating issues as necessary.

- Identify potential, successful, and unsuccessful intrusion attempts through thorough review and analysis of relevant event details and summaries.

- Collaborate with cybersecurity, IT, and other technical experts to effectively remediate vulnerabilities and ensure robust configuration management.
- Review daily threat and vulnerability reports to continuously enhance the institute's security posture.
- Document security-related policies, standards, and procedures to ensure compliance within the institute's environments and processes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience - 4+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
Associate's Degree with 2 years of professional experience required
Bachelor's degree preferred
Industry-recognized professional certification is advantageous, such as Security+, SSCP, CEH, GISF, GSEC, etc.

Required Skills and Abilities - Demonstrated experience in threat and/or vulnerability detection, analysis, and mitigation
Proven experience in monitoring security-related logs and events
Familiarity with endpoint protection, anti-virus, and malware detection
Experience with vulnerability scanning and patch management solutions
Knowledge of access control systems (e.g., Active Directory, Okta, etc.), multi-factor authentication, and related processes
Basic understanding of Linux, Mac, and Windows operating systems
Fundamental knowledge of network protocols and principles
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Strong documentation and organizational abilities
Familiarity with common regulatory and security frameworks (HIPAA, NIST, etc.) is a plus
