Montessori Assistant Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to support students and staff in a bilingual environment at the Latin American Montessori Bilingual Public Charter School (LAMB).

Our staff exhibit enthusiasm, a caring attitude, and a love of learning. LAMB offers a unique model that provides bilingual Montessori public education to diverse, urban families in the nation's capital.

Serving children in PK3 through 5th grade, LAMB is a community that is committed to children and promotes peace and equality for all.

The ideal candidate will work one-on-one with a student to help support academic instruction and guide behavior as needed.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the bilingual goal of the school by modeling first and second language (Spanish) for all students.
  • Collecting daily data to track student progress in the areas of behavior and academics as needed.
  • Providing feedback to teachers about student behaviors, performance, or any observation relevant to the children.
  • Collaborating with the Montessori Teacher, Special Education Teacher, special education service providers (speech, PT, OT), and other Assistant Teachers to address student needs in the classroom.
  • Participating in school activities, including special events, field trips, workshops, etc.
  • Providing administrative support to the special education team.
  • Helping with recess, lunch, and transitions.

Requirements include:

  • Associates Degree or 48 college credit hours or have successfully passed the ParaPro Assessment administered by ETS (with a high school diploma or equivalent).
  • ABA or RBT training and experience preferred.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities.
  • Energetic, flexible, imaginative, and eager to work in a bilingual and multicultural public school.
  • English fluency required; Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
