Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Air Force Reserve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) in the Aircraft Pneudraulic Systems Mechanic position. Responsibilities
  1. Conduct scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and periodic inspections on all pneudraulically operated systems on and off aircraft in accordance with established procedures.
  2. Perform troubleshooting of complex integrated pneudraulic systems of related on and off equipment for assigned and/or transient aircraft to include support equipment.
  3. Perform off-equipment maintenance and bench checks to support the repair cycle. Utilize safety practices and tool control procedures to maintain a safe and clean work area.
  4. Prepare and execute effective training plans to maximize training for all assigned personnel, including Active Duty, Reservist, Civilians, Contractors, and foreign military.
  5. Review, verify, and document aircraft forms, component forms/tags, and Maintenance Information Systems (MIS) to reflect maintenance actions performed on and off equipment.
Requirements

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8200 Fluid Systems Maintenance Family.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasize the quality of experience, not necessarily the length. The screen-out element for this position is the ability to join the Reserves.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  2. Skill and knowledge in the use of standard hand and power tools/equipment, materials accounting, and security.
  3. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data, and knowledge of the USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures.
  4. Ability to remove and install aircraft pneudraulic systems, equipment, or accessories.
  5. Comprehensive knowledge of operation, capabilities, and limitations of aircraft pneudraulic systems.
  6. Ability to use a variety of test and measurement equipment, ability to test complete pneudraulic systems.
  7. Ability to document in aircraft forms/MIS, clean work area, and/or job site upon completion of work.
  8. Ability to overhaul, repair, calibrate, or fabricate aircraft pneudraulic equipment.
  9. Ability to troubleshoot aircraft pneudraulic equipment of moderate complexity.
  10. Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations, and technical orders.
Functional Requirements

The following functional requirements are necessary for this position:

  6. Pushing and pulling.
  7. Reaching above shoulder.
  8. Use of fingers, both hands, arms, legs, and feet are required.
  9. Walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, bending, and climbing are required.
  10. Operation of special purpose and/or motor vehicles.
  11. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.
  12. Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4.
  13. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other.
  14. Both eyes required.
  15. Depth perception.
  16. Ability to distinguish basic colors.
  17. Hearing (with or without aid).
Environmental Factors

The work environment for this position includes:

  1. Work performed in hangar areas, outdoors, in/on aircraft, and sometimes in hazardous noise areas.
  2. Exposed to extremes in heat, cold, humidity, and inclement weather.
  3. Must work in confined areas and in awkward positions.
  4. Exposed to bodily fluids, dirt, grease, and aircraft fluids (oil, hydraulic, fuel, sealants, solvents, hazardous fluids, particulates, and gases).
  5. Potentially exposed to Hydrazine, Halon, and/or composites, electrical shocks, RF radiation, explosive hazards, and Low Observable (LO).
  6. Subject to eye damage due to exposure to LASERs.
  7. Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces.
  8. Slippery or uneven walking surfaces.
  9. Working around machinery with moving parts.
  10. Working around moving objects or vehicles.
  11. May be exposed to intake suction and hot exhaust blast.
  12. Working closely with others or working alone.
Other Significant Facts

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) enlisted position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow the incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies. The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.

The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance. This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing as a condition of employment.

The incumbent may be required to fly in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments (TDY) away from the normal duty station. The incumbent may be required to work overtime to meet workload demands. Performs uncommon tours of duty. Performs other duties as assigned.
