Position Overview:
The Zoning Compliance Supervisor will lead and improve the municipality's enforcement of codes and zoning regulations. This role is crucial for managing and implementing zoning, property upkeep, nuisance control, and hazardous property resolutions.

The Zoning Compliance Supervisor will handle daily operations, process zoning applications and permits, and ensure compliance with all municipal regulations and resolutions.


Supervision Structure:
Operates under the general oversight of the Development Director.

Compensation Range:
$51,584 - $71,151

Key Responsibilities:

Zoning and Permit Oversight:
Supervise the evaluation of requests for zoning permits, variances, and planning approvals. Assess compliance with zoning regulations for all applications.

Code Enforcement Leadership:
Direct and oversee all code enforcement initiatives within the Development Department, including the management of code enforcement personnel. Ensure effective implementation of municipal zoning, property maintenance, nuisance, and hazardous property regulations.

Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain comprehensive records of zoning applications, decisions, and enforcement actions.

Generate reports, charts, graphs, and maps utilizing research data in various software formats, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and ArcView GIS.


Liaison and Assistance:
Act as a liaison and provide support for the Board of Zoning Appeals and Zoning Commission. Staff support may also be required for the Board of Trustees. Offer technical guidance on zoning regulations and community planning issues during public meetings.

Public Engagement:

Assist the public, applicants, developers, and others seeking information on zoning, property maintenance, nuisance, and hazardous property matters.


Project Management and Analysis:
Oversee special projects as assigned by the Development Director. Conduct research on development-related subjects and ensure the municipality's policies align with current regulations and community needs.

Professional Growth:
Engage in professional organizations and meetings relevant to departmental functions and community development.

Preferred Qualifications:
A. Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or a related discipline; or a combination of relevant work experience.
B. Ideally five years of experience in zoning administration, code enforcement, or a closely related field, including supervisory experience.
C. Comprehensive knowledge of zoning laws, property maintenance codes, and enforcement principles.
D. Strong organizational and leadership capabilities.
E. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in GIS and other relevant software.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with personal computers, mainframe terminals, word processing software, copy machines, postage machines, fax machines, and calculators.

Work Environment:
  • The position is primarily office-based with typical physical demands associated with office work. The noise level is generally quiet.
