SUMMARY
The primary objective of the Advanced Practice Provider role is to deliver direct patient care in both outpatient and inpatient environments, focusing on general breast cancer management and education in disease prevention.
KEY FUNCTIONS
Patient Assessment/Intervention/Evaluation/Performance of Diagnostic/Therapeutic Procedures:
Deliver high-quality patient care tailored to the patient's diagnosis, treatment plan, age group, development, and other identified needs. Effectively communicate findings to patients, their families, and the healthcare team.
Conduct comprehensive health assessments, including medical history, physical examinations, and psychosocial evaluations, and provide recommendations for healthcare and prevention based on findings.
Must be adept at reviewing records, verifying findings, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal care.
Monitor and analyze laboratory, clinical, radiographic, and procedural data for both ambulatory and inpatient services, developing appropriate care plans for each patient.
Review patient history, laboratory results, and radiographic data to formulate further diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in collaboration with the physician.
Manage symptoms, toxicities, and health issues related to disease or treatment in conjunction with the physician and other healthcare professionals.
Assess patient responses to treatment and healthcare services, modifying care as necessary (under physician supervision if medical acts are required). Provide psychological support to patients and their families.
Deliver healthcare throughout the disease continuum: diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, palliative care, and cancer prevention.
Facilitate access to institutional and agency resources.
Coordinate consultations, diagnostic procedures, and ensure patient convenience in collaboration with the attending physician.
Provide triage in the outpatient setting to ensure consistent patient care.
Assist with data entry and retrieval of patient information, and document patient letters, notes, progress notes, telephone notes, and consultation notes.
Educator/Consultant/Research/Non-Essential:
Provide general health education to patients and their families.
Engage in formal and informal training of physician assistant students, professional physician assistants, and other healthcare professionals.
Stay current by participating in continuing education programs relevant to the clinical area and the Advanced Practice Provider's certification, reviewing literature related to the clinical field, engaging in professional organizations, and disseminating advancements in healthcare through publications and presentations.
Attend departmental meetings relevant to the Advanced Practice Provider role.
Apply relevant research to enhance patient care and evidence-based practices.
Contribute to departmental research efforts, including protocol accrual and trials.
Provide consultation to colleagues and allied health personnel.
Collaborate with medical, nursing, and other disciplines regarding care plans, follow-up, and evaluations.
Recommend therapeutic interventions for symptom relief.
Contribute to research initiatives and apply pertinent findings to clinical practice.
Identify clinical challenges suitable for research methodologies.
Initiate or collaborate on research projects.
Assist with the implementation of registered departmental research protocols.
Participate in professional activities (research, presentations, publications, etc.) and perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
Required:
Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program recognized by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), with the exception of Physician Assistants who graduated from a PA program prior to 2013.
EXPERIENCE
Preferred:
Previous experience as a Physician Assistant.
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION
Required:
All of the following:
PA certification from the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.
Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.
MAY BE REQUIRED:
Eligibility for limited prescriptive authority granted by the State of Texas.
Must meet the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) requirements if working in designated departments.
