Soil Scientist Job Description

Geo-Technology Associates, Inc. (GTA) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Soil Scientist to join our Geotechnical and Natural Resources groups in Quakertown, PA. As a Field Scientist, you will provide support to the Geotechnical and Natural Resources groups, including logging test pits, soil borings, and rock cores, as well as performing soil infiltration testing and percolation testing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct fieldwork, including logging test pits, soil borings, and rock cores.
  • Perform soil infiltration testing and percolation testing.
  • Prepare exploration logs, soil maps, plans, and report figures.
  • Assist in the preparation of geotechnical and infiltration testing reports.
  • Observe and document construction activities to ensure compliance with technical specifications.
  • Prepare daily field reports and test summaries documenting the work being performed.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Soil Science, Geology, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Own transportation, valid driver's license, and good driving record.
  • Enjoy working outdoors.
  • 0-5 years of experience with test pit excavation and infiltration testing.
  • Proficiency in the USDA Soil Classifications System and Soil taxonomy.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Professional Soil Scientist (CPSS) or Licensed Soil Scientist.
  • Pennsylvania Professional Soil Scientist License.
  • Sewage Enforcement Officer License.
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wetland delineation manual.
