About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Curriculum Specialist to join our team at Manhattan Star Academy.

Job Summary

The Senior Curriculum Specialist will be responsible for coordinating the curriculum implementation and instructional programs in lower school classrooms. This includes overseeing the development and implementation of curriculum materials, providing supervision and mentorship to special education teachers and teaching assistants, and supporting teachers in effectively implementing individualized curriculum instruction.

Main Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the curriculum usage and implementation in each of the lower school classrooms, ensuring that all students receive a high-quality education tailored to their specific needs.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of curriculum materials, including lesson plans, assessments, and educational resources.
  • Provide supervision and mentorship to special education teachers and teaching assistants, ensuring that they have the necessary support and guidance to maintain fidelity and integrity of classroom instruction.
  • Support teachers in effectively implementing individualized curriculum instruction, utilizing research and past teaching experience to develop procedures and policies that meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Observe and evaluate special education teachers and teaching assistants, promoting the implementation of best practices and successful teaching methods through consistent supervision and feedback.
  • Collaborate with related services department leaders to create and maintain a cohesive and robust education program for all students, encompassing all domains of special education.
  • Act as liaison between special education teachers and teaching assistants and administrative staff, facilitating communication and ensuring a smooth workflow.
  • Plan school-wide events, assemblies, and special programming days, fostering a positive and inclusive school community.
  • Support in researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals, and other fundraising efforts for the school, securing resources to enhance educational programs and opportunities.

Requirements

  • Three academic years or more of special education teaching experience, with a strong understanding of curriculum design and implementation.
  • Enrolled in or already completed School Building Leader (SBL) program and licensure, demonstrating a commitment to leadership and professional development.
  • Mentor teacher and/or coaching experience, with the ability to provide guidance and support to colleagues.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage several long- and short-term projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Comfortable providing constructive feedback and guidance to colleagues, promoting ongoing progress and success.
  • Optimistic and go-getter personality, with the ability to take initiative and drive results.
  • Ability to problem-solve, communicate effectively, and facilitate directions to staff members, building strong relationships and collaborations.
  • Ability to collaborate, solicit and consider input, guide others, and meet deadlines, working effectively in a team environment.
