DESCRIPTION
This role is classified as a Safety-Sensitive position. Candidates who successfully navigate the interview process will undergo drug and alcohol testing.
The primary objective of this position is to ensure public safety in aquatic environments while facilitating recreational activities by overseeing and enforcing safety regulations at water facilities. The Aquatic Safety Officer is tasked with safeguarding the health and well-being of visitors in aquatic settings through both preventive measures and responsive actions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties:
- Effectively communicate with patrons and team members in both spoken and written English to maintain safe and efficient operations.
- Proactively prevent accidents and mitigate hazardous situations.
- Provide First Aid as necessary, including administering CPR and utilizing an AED.
- Monitor and enforce all safety protocols at the assigned facility.
- Educate visitors about the importance of safety rules and regulations.
- Identify and assist individuals in distress.
- Respond promptly to emergencies in the water and execute water rescues.
- Complete all required documentation and reports in a timely manner.
- Conduct regular chemical assessments of pool water quality.
- Perform various maintenance tasks, including cleaning pool areas and equipment.
- Engage with the public and colleagues in a professional and courteous manner.
- Ensure the cleanliness of locker rooms, offices, and surrounding areas.
- Carry out other tasks as assigned.
- This role involves sitting, standing, and swimming, with intermittent walking, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing, and lifting items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Must be at least sixteen (16) years old, with a preference for candidates aged eighteen (18) and above.
- Demonstrated physical strength and capability to perform demanding water rescues, as well as administer CPR and First Aid.
- Proficient swimming and rescue skills are required.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Certification for the following items will be provided upon employment:
- Must possess or be able to obtain an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate, which includes AED Certification. YMCA equivalent is acceptable.
