Occupational Therapist Job Description

Spectrum Center Schools and Programs is seeking an Occupational Therapist to join our team and make a meaningful impact in the lives of students with special needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Implement designated student services as detailed in the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), including the number of hours and times per week.
  • Complete assessment reports within the required timeframe.
  • Communicate evaluation results and occupational therapy service recommendations to parents, educational staff, and students as needed.
  • Develop and adjust IEP goals as necessary.
  • Conduct periodic reassessments of therapy objectives based on student needs.
  • Monitor and collaborate with other professionals and paraprofessionals involved in occupational therapy intervention procedures.
  • Document and maintain student progress reports according to district and program guidelines.
  • Participate in IEP meetings to present information relevant to therapy goals.
  • Create a learning environment conducive to students' maturity levels, interests, and needs.
  • Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for occupational therapy service termination.
  • Facilitate in-service education and professional development for related service/occupational therapy staff.
  • Participate in training educational school staff on assistive technology use and maintain documentation.
  • Participate in all required meetings.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in occupational therapy or a related field.
  • Valid state occupational therapist (OT) license.
  • Prior experience and/or knowledge in providing occupational therapy services, special education services, and compliance.
  • Advanced skills in working with students with diverse needs at various levels.
  • Prior experience and/or knowledge in applied behavior analysis (ABA) preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Solid motivational skills and willingness to adapt to changing priorities and new initiatives.
  • Proficiency in relevant technology, including computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
