We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Business Office Specialist to join our team at UNC Health. Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough reviews and verifications of claims and data submissions to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Initiate appeals and resolve denials to improve cash flow and minimize revenue loss.
- Monitor and analyze third-party payer payments, explanations of benefits, and other correspondence to identify and address any discrepancies or issues.
- Collaborate with patients, third-party payer organizations, and internal staff to resolve inquiries, questions, or concerns in a timely and effective manner.
- Stay up-to-date with federal and state claim processing regulations, third-party payer contracts, and payment rates to ensure accurate and compliant claims processing.
- Document all claims processing, follow-up, collection, account inquiry resolution, and reconciliation actions taken in accordance with departmental and hospital procedures.
- Attend daily administrative meetings and update daily census in the Achieve billing system, including registering patients and updating the ADT report.
- Enter new patients into the system, generate new face sheets for all new admits, and post charges and payments to the Achieve billing system.
- Process AP invoices, review and code to correct accounts for AP, and prepare daily deposits.
- Balance petty cash boxes, assist with reconciliation of Resident Trust and Resident Council accounts, and provide frontline customer support to families with billing questions.
- Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
- Six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- High School diploma or GED: 5 years experience.
- Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Computer Skills: Ability to use medical claims processing software, working knowledge of Word, Excel, Achieve Pathlinks, and Microsoft Exchange.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
This position is employed by UNC Health, a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System. This is not a State employed position.
