Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to join our team at Soliant. As an ASL Interpreter, you will play a critical role in ensuring effective communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their teachers and peers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpreting Services: Provide high-quality ASL interpreting services during classroom instruction, school activities, meetings, and other educational settings to facilitate equal access to academic instruction and communication.
  • Communication Facilitation: Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa, conveying content and intent accurately, and maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of all parties involved.
  • Collaboration and Support: Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other educational professionals to ensure that classroom materials and resources are accessible to students, and provide support to students in their understanding of and participation in classroom activities.
  • Assessment and Testing: Provide assistance during assessments and testing situations, including interpreting exam questions, prompts, and instructions for students.
  • Professional Development: Stay updated on current trends, practices, and educational resources related to ASL interpretation and deaf culture.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential records related to interpreting services, including logs of interpreted sessions and student progress reports.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language or a related field.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Certifications: 3.5+ EIPA or NIC certification.
  • Experience: Experience working as an ASL interpreter in an educational setting is strongly preferred.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, teachers, and staff; flexibility and adaptability to meet the individual communication needs of students with diverse backgrounds and abilities; sensitivity and respect for the unique needs and experiences of individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing; strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple assignments and deadlines; proficiency in using technology and interpreting software to support interpreting services.
