Alfred University is seeking highly skilled and certified lifeguards to ensure the safety of patrons at our outdoor waterfront/recreation area. As a lifeguard, you will be responsible for preventing and responding to emergencies, providing emergency care and treatment, and maintaining a clean and safe facility.

Responsibilities
  • Provide secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency
  • Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
  • Presentation of professional appearance and attitude at all times, with a high standard of customer service
  • Perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate activity reports
  • Provide information to visitors with Foster Lake Access
Requirements
  • Current certifications by a New York State recognized source of training in Professional Rescuer CPR, First Aid, Lifeguarding required, Waterfront Lifeguarding preferred
  • Reliable transportation and cell/smart phone
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment lifeguarding and CPR skills evaluation as stipulated by the manager
  • Regular practice of skills throughout the lifeguarding season
  • Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork
  • Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures
  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions
  • Knowledge of customer service
  • Ability to maneuver a watercraft with oars or paddle
  • Willingness to spend time in the outdoors, interact with potential wildlife, and be exposed to inclement weather conditions at times
  • Preference will be given to those over 18 years of age due to work requirements
