Job Overview:
The Correctional Managed Care team is dedicated to fulfilling the healthcare requirements of underrepresented patient groups within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).
Job Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct nursing care to a designated group of patients.
- Engage in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care provided.
- Conduct admission, discharge, and transfer processes.
- Utilize the nursing care plan in daily tasks, with the ability to review and adjust the plan under supervision.
- Demonstrate the capacity to observe and document patient signs, symptoms, and behaviors, including physiological status, and propose modifications to interventions and expected outcomes.
- Administer nursing interventions that align with the established medical care plan.
- Alert relevant nursing and medical personnel of any changes in patient conditions; prioritize patient care, multidisciplinary treatment strategies, and potential crises.
- Follow physician directives in the provision of nursing care.
- Ensure patient privacy and confidentiality of all information and records.
- Safely administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Execute written physician orders for assigned patients.
- Prepare equipment and supplies for various diagnostic or treatment procedures; assist with or perform procedures as necessary.
- Adhere to infection control protocols, isolation procedures, and aseptic techniques in patient care delivery.
- Document all nursing care in the appropriate patient records.
- Comply with internal controls and reporting structures.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Equipment Used:
Standard patient care supplies, equipment, and mechanical devices.
Work Environment:
This position is situated within a correctional facility, requiring security clearance and pre-employment drug testing.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a Licensed Vocational Nurse Program and possession of a current license/permit as a vocational nurse in Texas. No prior experience is necessary.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
This role is non-benefit eligible and limited to a maximum of 19 hours per week.
