Job Summary

UTMB Health is seeking a skilled Vocational Nurse to join our team in providing high-quality patient care to underserved populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to assigned patients, including assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care.
  • Participate in admission, discharge, and transfer procedures, and review and modify the nursing plan of care as needed.
  • Deliver designated nursing interventions to assigned patients, consistent with the state medical plan of care.
  • Notify nursing and medical staff of changes in patient status, and recognize patient care priorities, multidisciplinary treatment plans, and potential patient care crises.
  • Follow physician's orders, maintain patient confidentiality, and safely administer medications and treatments.
  • Perform related duties as required, including adhering to infection control, isolation procedures, and aseptic techniques.
Requirements
  • High school or equivalent, and graduation from a Licensed Vocational Nurse Program.
  • Current license/permit as a vocational nurse in the State of Texas.
  • Current BLS-HP certification.
Work Environment

This position is located within the confines of a prison, jail, or juvenile detention center, and requires security clearance and pre-employment drug testing.
