Job Description

Merck is seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our Quantitative Biosciences Department. As a Data Scientist, you will play a key role in leading statistical analyses and research data science solutions for small molecule and peptide workflows in early drug discovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop new machine learning workflows, including deep learning workflows, to enable the discovery of new medicines.
  • Contribute to property prediction models for small molecules and peptides.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary discovery teams to apply a variety of informatics and modeling techniques to identify new drug discovery leads and accelerate the evolution of leads to drug candidates.
  • Conduct research in areas of machine learning and molecular modeling relevant to drug discovery.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Python for scientific computing.
  • Knowledge of machine learning best practices.
  • Good working knowledge of biochemistry and/or chemistry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with high performance computing in a Unix/Linux OS environment, or familiarity with cloud computing, e.g., AWS experience.
  • Experience with research projects in the pharmaceutical early discovery space.
  • Ability to keep up with cutting-edge machine learning applications and motivated to jump in to see their application to drug-discovery.
  • Track record of producing scientific publications.
  • Understanding of CI/CD tools.

Education

  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or another relevant quantitative field.
