Pathologist Assistant

This position is responsible for assisting pathologists in the surgical and autopsy pathology areas at Rush University. The successful candidate will be part of a team that provides quality care to clients and patients, exemplifying the Rush mission, vision, and values. The role requires teamwork, adaptability, and a commitment to excellence in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
Perform surgical pathology grossing, dictation, and frozen sections according to established procedures.
Process and label specimens accurately, ensuring high-quality patient care.
Oversee at least one area of the lab, including the Gross Room, student programs, the autopsy area, and/or a biorepository. This may involve ordering and maintaining supply inventory, maintaining inspection readiness, initiating/maintaining clinical databases, writing technical procedures, participating in employee engagement activities, and ensuring a safe and uncluttered work environment.
Meet turnaround time expectations by prioritizing and organizing the workload for the shift, utilizing time effectively, and seeking out additional job duties when shift tasks are complete.
Participate in procedure implementation and training of new staff and students, identify areas for process improvement, and initiate procedures or programs to respond to deficiencies.
Requirements
Bachelor's/Master's degree from an accredited Pathology Assistant program.
Certified Pathologist Assistant.
Ability to work on multiple projects with frequently changing priorities, learn and instruct others in new procedures, and display excellent organizational skills and efficiency.
Travel outside the metropolitan Chicago area may be required.
Physical Demands
Must be able to perform repetitive motions required for use of pipette, saw, microtome, and other laboratory equipment.
Position is located in a laboratory with exposure to potentially infectious or hazardous materials, including formaldehyde and xylene.
Potential for injury due to scalpel blades, razor blades, and caustic substances.
